the History
of Posada
|
The history of Posada:
- The
origin of the name of POSADA derives from Pausada
or more specifically Pasada, that in dialect means
rested, place of rest, repose.

In
effect, the old POSADA arose because of an important road
linking the sea and the hinterland, with the roads that
connected Terranoa (Olbia) to Cagliari. Subsequently,
due to the fertile earth, wayfarers and shepherds usually
stopped to rest, to water the horses or to winter the
livestock, besides it was a port area and therefore afforded
connection with the continent. During the pisana domination,
under the influence of the Tuscan language, it became
Pasata, later, towards 1300 it finally became POSADA thanks
to the Spanish conquest of the Arogonesis. It was the
Etruschis who founded, where Posada now stands, FERONIA,
so called after the divine guardian of the Toschis, the
goddess Feronia; from this period we have preserved a
bronze figurine that originates from POSADA that represents
the type of italic Eracle from the end of the IV sec.
A. C. It is displayed in the museum of Cagliari. In the
Middle Ages, thanks to it's landscape (mountains to west,
sea to the east and a valley in the centre), it was chosen
as the site for a hospital run by the Monks of S.Vittore,
of the Dogana del sale, a Royal Cure, and afforded a strategic
position from the nearby Molo or Rocco and so was erected
the Castle Of the FAVA, built in the XII century. that
still dominates the valley, the mountains and the sea.

lthe legend:
-
The
Castle of FAVA (green bean) takes the name from
a legend that tells of when the Saracens disembarked
at Posada to conquer and steal the treasures of
the Judge (Custodian), they found the whole population
hidden in the Mures and in the Tower. The Saracens,
because the
Moors were tall and strong, laid siege, camped on
the beach waiting for the Sardinians to die of hunger
and thirst. The Custodian of the Castle (Judge)
gave the last green bean to a dove to strengthen
it and take a message to bring the nearby legions
for rescue; as this was predicted, the dove was
captured. and when they found the green bean in
its stomach, the Moors thought the Sardinians, since
they could afford to feed a dove, they would be
able to withstand a long siege, whilst they was
decimated with malaria. So
they left the country, which was saved thanks to
the last remaining green bean. In the XIV, the Wall
was built to defend the village, and then subsequently
the Towers and the Doors. The inhabitants were protected
inside the borders of the Walls against the innumerable
wars, some being those amongst Arboreal and Aragon
and the raids of the Saracens. In 1388 the Church
Of SANT'ANTONIO Abate was built, the Parish for
the people, acting also as the court Chapel and
Cemetery, in fact near the church, next to the staircase
to climb to the Castle of the Fava, you can still
see in the rocks ,human bones, since that whole
area had been a cemetery. It was reclaimed on several
occasions over different periods; today it is an
agricultural zone, with citrus and olive-groves
and the natural cattle breeding. It has become a
tourist destination after the improvement of the
roads, the construction of hotels, of the airport,
the widening of the port of Olbia and that of La
Caletta that falls between Posada and Siniscola.
Currently many historical monuments are being restructured
to once again show its previous splendour, La Casa
delle Dame etc.., the same castle that has been
reconstructed previously and the Church of Sant'Antonio
Abate that it is a national monument. ( continued
